Myth of Muslims not befriending non-Muslims-

In this subject of not befriending non-Muslims, Which is perhaps only a myth propagated- Under-observed, as I note it and further lacking any liveable experiences with the Muslim community. I have to tell you-  If you were to think that, I’m presenting a very benign case. Please reflect into the following verse-

Quran 5.6 -This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time, – when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues. If any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good)-.

It is clear that, sharing wholesome and pure meals across tables and marrying women from Jews & Christians with dignity strongly puts the idea of not befriending non-Muslims- aside. In a certain context Quran educates Muslims to observe prudence but the myth that has evolved around this issue has no manifestations of it in Islamic history and culture. Historically, there has been a long standing association of non-Muslims who essentially lived within the Islamic world. Muslims and non-Muslims did thrive and flourish, side by side for generations many to this day are known as Coptic Christians in Arabia.

Jews were no exception. They stood equally expelled by the inquisition in Spain along side Muslims. Jews measured their successes with their Muslim association in the by-gone days of Christian hostility.

Further, Muslims to this day observe cross-cultural and interfaith marriages with Jews and Christians. A symbol of tolerance promoted by their faith to extend recognition of their commonality in adoring Abrahamic God. Something, clearly not reciprocated by the members of Judo-Christian faith despite no unequivocal scriptural condemnation.

The verse of Quran 3:28 under attack

Quran 3.28 -Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auwliya (comrades) instead of the believers. And whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way; except by way of precaution from them in prudence. And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment), and to Allah is the final return-. 

In Islam, on fundamentals of judiciary and legislation except where discretion is necessary, God’s sovereignty is supreme and is never annulled. Believing Muslims (although today stand drifted), are called to obey and worship God sincerely making their services to fellow humans as an offering to Allah (Almighty God). But strong disbelievers (the type who reject Islamic doctrine outright with deep seated hate against Islam), are to be dealt with precaution where it is required to be prudent before friendship. Those who resist Islam can not be condoned as comrades which could lead to compromises in Islamic affairs and can not be considered as friends in this context, emphasis laid.

Of course as Muslims we are commanded to exchange cordial and exemplary mannerism with every other human regardless of religious dissent a key note in the Quran to help build & maintain peace between communities. Which is very different to taking comrades from those who oppose your values and principle commitments to God. As is clarified in the verse where God says -except by way of precaution from them in prudence-. 

This important piece of advice from the Quran to the Muslims is presently serving as a law against diplomatic compromises, encroachments and treason in many republics, of the non Muslim nations. It isn’t something which is totally an unfamiliar dogma, but comes as clear advice to the Muslim believers to guard their commitments to God.
