Refraction of white light in Atmosphere a Quran miracle-

As we know our precious Atmosphere (the blue Sky) is unique to planet Earth. There is evidence that even Mars in its early formation hosted an Atmosphere and water did flow on it like on planet Earth. However since mars lost its Atmosphere, planet Earth became unique for this reason in about a million solar systems that we are searching to find a similarity for an Earth like planet.  What this really means to us is its tantamount relation not just to host our survival but to assist our ability to see. Our celestial Moon is one such body at proximity which gives us the opportunity to imagine how it would be without proper visibility. Because we can’t see the way we do here on earth even if the Sun showed up the zenith. See the Sun rise & set animated on Moon. Science has helped us know that since Moon has no Atmosphere of its own, Sun’s white light wouldn’t scatter and as a result the ambience is dimmed and therefore there is very low visibility on Moon. Centuries ago Almighty God, Allah has revealed this information in the Quran at a time when we could barely reflect on these details. This is a sign to modern generations such that we acknowledge Him as the Chief Creator of all the wonders.

In Quran  79:27-29 ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقاً أَمِ السَّمَآءُ بَنَـهَا رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَـهَا -What! Are you the more difficult to create or the Sky (Atmosphere) that [Allah] has constructed? On high has He raised its spherical boundary, and He has given it order and perfection. Its night does He endow with darkness, and its (splendorous glow) does He extract as day-. 

Indeed as humans we find ourselves as extraordinary beings expressing on Earth and ever since ancient times we have continuously pioneered our presence here. Almighty God, Allah brings our attention to a rhetorical question saying ‘who is difficult to create you or the Sky that I have constructed’? By virtue of our great learning we affirm to this rhetoric positively. It is humbling that this Atmosphere in altitude stretches approximately from 0-600 kms about where the auroras light up at the poles then fades off into space at approximately 10,000 kms which is called as the exosphere forming the outermost layer of our Atmosphere. The molecules of gas in denser regions of this Atmosphere are primarily responsible for refraction of white light glowing the horizon to splendour in blue halo. Allah with the use of the select word informs us that samkaha (its spherical boundary) the Atmosphere of the Sky, He perfected it to merge with space as a seamless design.

Miracle of refraction of white light by Atmosphere in Quran

The second most important revelations as seen detailed in the later part of the verse is the miracle of refraction of white light in the Atmosphere. Wa Akhraja Duhaha (وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَـهَا, and extracting Atmospheric splendorous glow) is so obvious and is detailed in rudimentary terms that it clean shaves wrong inferences. The word  Akhraja means to extract. In the more scientific terms with respect to optics it is refraction. Perhaps as this context is directly connected to daylight the Atmosphere’s refraction becomes more than evident. The Sky, according to the Quran is not a singular entity technically. During  the night time it remains blinded devoid of light so darkness prevails. And at dawn, when light from the Sun strikes the Earth, the Atmosphere refracts the white light resulting in glowing up of the Sky. In traditional translations it is rendered as ‘its splendour does He bring out (with light)’.

Conclusion

This clearly makes it more than obvious to us today that this factual information couldn’t have been understood or document 14 centuries ago. Which makes refraction of white light a Quran miracle indeed.
