Lineage of Muhammad is traced to Noah, does Quran confirm?
Often people exert leaps to connect with best of the lineages known to them from their traditions and culture to claim novel origins. It is still seen as a thing to reckon in the eastern cultures. Although religion has admonished emphatically that all people are descendants from Adam and Adam is from dust. This teaching by God himself seems to dilute as people are lead by their traditions more than anything. As traditions stand manipulated generations of people experience sufferings due to alterations in social structure and civil rights. Although this topic of our choice is not concerning racial abuse or discrimination it is a point worth to mention.
Who is Imran
Peace and blessings of Allah be on all the blessed Prophets, whom He choose as warrens and bearers of good news for the guidance of mankind. When Abraham was chosen by God to represent His office, Noah was clearly a forgotten tale. Little did even Abraham know of Noah? I don’t have the slightest hesitation that until God rehearsed to him from the stories of the past, Noah and his people weren’t even a bed time tale for the children who lived during the time of Abraham. As Abraham stood wondering concerning the truth about God, even as he reflected, God steadily guided him to the true path. After his qualifying to nurture unwavering faith in God, he and his progeny were blessed to become the standard bearers of God’s divine messages for mankind for the following time to come. A verse from Quran reveals some information about God nominating two individuals to warn the sum of humanity in their respective times and two exclusive families to bear this burden of warning humanity above all people. Quran 3.33 إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَىٰ آدَمَ وَنُوحًا وَآلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ -Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran over the worlds- In this verse you can clearly read that Noah’s family isn’t exclusively merited for the divine office for the times to come, although God did bless his family with prophet hood, but this implies Prophets were appointed in other lineages apart from Noah like …… Perhaps only since Abraham this credential of being exclusive for office was awarded to the families of Abraham and then Imran (father of Moses) for the times to come. Until then it was the selection of outstanding individuals who would earn communication with the divine office.
Allah traces Moses’s descent
Quran 17.2-3 Θذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا Θوَآتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلْنَاهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا مِن دُونِي وَكِيلًا -And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs. Descendant from those whom we boarded [in the ship] with Noah. Indeed, he (Moses) was a grateful servant-.
Verse 3 explains that Moses descended from those who boarded Noah’s ship, unlike the Biblical story, Quran confirms that from among the people of Noah some were believers and they boarded the ship with him. This clear indication gives no leverage to misinterpret the verse. If you still have doubts concerning Moses’s descent, let me point out confirmation by more supporting verses from Quran. In surah Maryam from the beginning of the chapter a series of Prophets and theirs stories are read. Quran 19.58 summarises lineage of those names that are mentioned thus far to be from the chain of Abraham through (Israel) Jacob. Again, the key note is inferred that all of these names descend from Adam and then from those who boarded the ship with Noah (وَمِمَّنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ). It is clear that Noah did not father this line of the Prophet hood.
Quran 19.58 أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ مِن ذُرِّيَّةِ آدَمَ وَمِمَّنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْرَائِيلَ وَمِمَّنْ هَدَيْنَا وَاجْتَبَيْنَا ۚ إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا -Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those whom We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping-.
Allah chooses exclusive family lines
Quran 11.48 قِيلَ يَا نُوحُ اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ مِّنَّا وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِّمَّن مَّعَكَ ۚ وَأُمَمٌ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمْ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ -It was said, O Noah, disembark in security from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations [descending] from those with you. But other nations [of them] We will grant enjoyment; then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment-. This verse again clarifies that Allah gives good news as He blesses him and the generations that will descend from those who accompanied him. As we could see how the pass of time had estranged Abraham and his people of the old stories, this information later was interpreted by the early scholars of the Bible by favouritism and they insistently traced their father Abraham in the famous line of Noah’s descent. And since then, this has become an unchallenged version of lineage in the Abrahamic faiths. A little diligence while browsing Quran will recount to us a clear case of Abraham ‘s and Noah’s two distinctive lines unconnected. Quran 57.26 وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مُّهْتَدٍ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ -And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophet hood and scripture; and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient-. And also Quran 37.83 وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ -And indeed, among his kind was Abraham- emphasises that Abraham did come as a match to Noah in sincerity to God. If Abraham was a descendant of Noah, these verses would surely read differently. But instead Allah informs these are two distinctive lines of prophet hood. In Quran 17.3 Allah references Moses to the exclusion of other prophets from the children of Israel to draw inference at this new selection of a family which is Moses’s father Imran, as exclusive to others from the children of Jacob.
Noah’s line of prophet hood
As mentioned in Quran 57.26 quoted in the paragraph above Noah’s family did receive divine office but that it predates the selection of exclusive families since Abraham. One such worthy note is the scriptures of old found in the subcontinent of India wherein Noah is documented in the representation of the figure of Manu and his law book known as Manusmriti. The evidence to this fares very closely due to the findings that the basic framework of the Shariah in Manusmriti has resemblance to which is found in the Bible and Quran. It is worth noting that those who know the Quran can clearly figure out what went wrong in Manusmriti at the hands of those who instrumentally fabricated the scripture from its original indiscriminate standard.
Conclusions
It is very clear that Muhammad is a descendant of Abraham who had descended from those of the believers who boarded the Ark with Noah. And all people in general trace their descent from Adam and Eve, blessings of Allah on them.
